YWCA celebrates 25 years with Peace, Love and Acoustic Guitar

Don your grooviest getup and get down with entertainment by Carl Dixon Friday, Nov. 18 at McKecks for Peace, Love and Acoustic Guitar. A fun and funky fundraising event celebrating 25 years of YWCA in Haliburton County. The evening promises to be a hit; with prizes for the "grooviest vibe" and "hippiest threads", a silent auction and an array of free munchies including bruschetta, samosas and more. Sarah Adams, Resource Development Coordinator in Haliburton County for YWCA, says "the peace and love theme fits well with YWCA's commitment to anti-oppression and anti-violence. As well, Carl's playlist runs deep-and includes many songs from the 60s and 70s. His newer material-notably his latest solo album Lucky Dog, touches on themes of perseverance, love, and hope; all important components of what YWCA stands for and promotes in Haliburton County. It all works together perfectly." Carl hits the stage at 8:30 p.m. and will play into the night. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to browse for Christmas gifts at the silent auction tables, purchase dinner from McKecks' famous menu and secure prime seats for what promises to be one of the most happening nights of the year. Tickets are $25 or 2 for $40 and can be purchased at McKecks in Haliburton, Gravity House Cafe in Minden and South Algonquin Diner in Wilberforce. Event sponsors are Highland Glass & Windows, Haliburton County Development Corporation, The Haliburton County Echo, The Minden Times, Parker Pad and Printing and Boomer Creative. Proceeds will support the YWCA Women's Centre, Haliburton County, where counsellors and crisis intervention workers are available to help women who seek violence free lives for themselves and their children.
